We celebrated the 2024 accomplishments of our talented and hard-working athletes, coaches, and volunteers at our annual Awards Banquet at Bellamere Winery.
Tributes were made to Dave Mills and Paul Whitty, having announced their retirement from coaching. We are sad to see them go but are appreciative of everything that they have done for our athletes and the club.
Another two new inductees were added to our Hall of Fame.
· Karen Bowen—Athlete/Sprints & Hurdles—1982-1984—Jamaican National Team Member
and Western University T&F Wall of Honour Inductee
· Tim Hendry—Athlete/Shot Put—2012 to 2016—4-time Canadian Team Member
While we finished second in the overall club standings for the indoor and outdoor season, it was not without a fight to the finish. This can only inspire us to aim higher in the 2025 season, to reclaim those titles. (let’s fill up those relay entries!)
Indoors, we took the Open title and finished second in the U18 and U20 age groups. Outdoors, the U18 and U20 age groups were second while the Open team took third.
Twenty-eight new club records were broken this past year, which included several in the Masters categories. Many thanks to Dave Mills, who has kept a keen eye on these performances, as well as Ian Aseltine who has taken on the task of compiling records in the numerous Masters age categories for the club.
Awards were presented to the outstanding female/male age group winners, Athletes Council special awards, and the coveted Art Obokata was presented to Keithan Sivapragasam. Keithan has been a dedicated coach of our Junior Development athletes over the past few years while attending Western University.
Thank you to our partners New Balance London, BackRoads Brews + Shoes, and Damian Warner Fitness Centres for providing door prizes for the raffle draw, as well the following businesses for donating items as well: Garlic’s of London, Nash Jewellers, Stretch Health Canada, Jaydancin, Boler Mountain, and Flo + Co.
Many thanks to the members of our Athlete’s Council, under the guidance of Mila Suvajac, and to our banquet committee of Elysa Mascotto, Alisa Murphy-Smith, and Kathy Roberts for putting together a fabulous evening of food, fun, and recognition. Thank you to all who attended…without you, it just wouldn’t have been the same!
The following is a full list of award winners and record breakers. Additional photos can be found in our Gallery at https://2024-awards-banquet.londonwesterntfc.com/ with much gratitude to coach Trevor Hall for providing us with lasting memories.
See you in 2025!
